Which booster box should you buy?

Each set pulls differently. Here's how the boxes we stock compare. Read the full comparison.

Not financial advice. The prices, trends and average card values here and in the archive come from public price trackers, mainly Pokémon Wizard, and most are refreshed about once a day. They aren't live, and card prices can move fast. Check current listings before buying anything as an investment.

Reading a Japanese rarity list

Japanese sets use a finer rarity ladder than English ones. This is the shorthand you'll see on our product pages and card sleeves:

C / U / RCommon, Uncommon, Rare: most of every pack
ARArt Rare: full-scene alternate artwork
SARSpecial Art Rare: the usual chase cards
SSRShiny Super Rare: shiny full art
URUltra Rare: gold-etched cards
MUR / MAMega-era exclusive top tiers

The full archive

Every Japanese main set back to the first one in 1996, plus the sub-sets from 2015 on, whether we stock it or not. See every set on one page.

Release dates are as exact as we could get them. For a few older sets we only know the year, so that's all we show. Where the two halves of a paired release moved differently in value, we show a range. Click any set marked ▾ for its market snapshot.

Main Japanese sets released each year, counted from the list below.

Pack contents are random, so no card is guaranteed in any box. The chase cards above are what the set contains overall. Your box could have some of them or none. We only sell sealed product, so for single-card prices use a card price tracker.

Specialty sets

Premium trainer boxes and Pokémon Center exclusives. Limited runs: once they're gone, they're gone.

Why collectors choose TatakaiCards

We're two people in Belfast, and one of us checks every order before it goes out.

What you see is what you get

Stock counts are real, every box is sealed, and you get the exact box you ordered. No swaps.

Seen before sent

We check every box in Belfast before it's listed. Before yours ships, we email you photos of it: all six sides, the corners and the shrink wrap.

Packed for collectors

Your box goes inside a padded outer box, so it arrives the way it left, ready to keep sealed.

A reply from one of us

Email us about stock, shipping or an order and one of us will write back.

About TatakaiCards

Who you're buying from and how we work.

Who's behind Tatakai

There are just two of us, and we run TatakaiCards from Belfast. We both started collecting as kids: one of us was a mid-era fanatic, the other a HeartGold & SoulSilver enthusiast, and we both absolutely loved the Black & White era. We still collect today and we're regulars at local card shows.

We check and pack every order ourselves, so if you email contactus@tatakaicards.com you'll hear back from one of us, not a call centre. We're Tatakai Cards Ltd, a company registered in Northern Ireland (company number NI744309), and you can find our business details in the Terms of Sale.

How we source stock

We buy booster boxes from distributors in Japan ourselves. Nothing is relisted from a marketplace. When a shipment lands, we check seals, condition and weight before anything goes up for sale.

We've been caught out by counterfeit boxes ourselves, and we know how disappointing it is. That's why we check every box before it's listed, so you can buy with confidence.

Shipping & delivery

You pay what the carrier charges us for your parcel's weight. We don't add a markup.

How your shipping cost is worked out

At checkout we add up the packed weight of everything in your cart (each product lists its own) and show every shipping option for that weight, with prices, before you pay. Pick your country first to see the couriers we use there.

Already through customs, before you order

Ordering from a shop in Japan yourself usually means weeks of waiting and an import bill on arrival. We bring every box into the UK and clear customs before it's listed, so UK orders come by normal Royal Mail with nothing to pay on the doorstep.

Dispatched within 2 working days

We send every order within 2 working days of payment. Before it goes, we email you photos of your exact box: all six sides, the corners and the shrink wrap. The delivery times below start from dispatch.

Returns policy

What we can and can't do once a box has left our hands.

No returns once a box has been opened

Everything we sell is sealed and factory-wrapped. Once the outer seal is broken, we can't tell whether packs or cards have been removed or swapped, so we can't take an opened box back as a change-of-mind return.

Resealed or fake? Full refund

If you think your box has been resealed or is fake, send us photos within 30 days of delivery. We compare them with the photos we took before it left. If we can't show it left sealed and genuine, you get a full refund including postage. If it arrives damaged, we replace it or refund you.

Arrived damaged or already unsealed?

If a box arrives with the seal already broken, or damaged in transit, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos so we can arrange a replacement or refund quickly.

None of this affects your statutory rights. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you can cancel an online order within 14 days, as long as the box is still sealed. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund if a product is faulty, damaged in transit or not as described, whether or not it's been opened.

Yes. Every box is bought directly from distributors in Japan, and we check it ourselves before it's listed.

Yes. The cards are printed in Japanese, and the boxes are smaller: most of ours hold 30 packs of 5 cards, while High Class Packs such as Mega Dream ex hold 10 packs of 10. A standard English booster box holds 36 packs of 10. Sets also come out in Japan first, often months before the English version. Our guide to buying Japanese Pokémon cards in the UK covers the differences.

No. Every box is already through UK customs before we list it, so UK orders have nothing to pay on arrival.

Each booster box page links to a full card list for its set, with every card number, name and rarity, including the secret rares: Mega Dream ex, Storm Emeralda, Abyss Eye, Ninja Spinner, Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.

Not on this site. Here we stick to sealed boxes. Ripping packs with friends and family is what we love, so that's where our focus is. We do sell singles on eBay.
